Having three kids under the age of six is quite exciting. We never have a dull moment in our house and often have injuries and illnesses that need to be tended to by a doctor. I have learned a lot over the past six years about when a child needs to be seen by a doctor immediately and when certain things can wait until their regular pediatrician is available. I created this blog to help other parents learn about the injuries and illnesses that their children may experience when a doctor isn't available to take a child to whenever these things happen.

Vitamin and mineral infusions are becoming more and more popular. They are a good option for getting plenty of nutrition into your bloodstream in a short period of time. Basically, you will show up to a clinic, lie down on a comfortable bed similar to a hospital bed, and wait for about 30 minutes while the vitamins and minerals are dripped into your arm via an IV. The process is simple, but there are still a few tips you should follow your first time around. 

Get plenty of sleep beforehand.

This is especially important if you are someone who gets a little weak in the knees at the sight of a needle. You are less likely to feel faint if you get a good night's sleep before your infusion. Getting good sleep will also make sure your body is better equipped to process and absorb the nutrients you are given during the infusion. Go to bed an hour earlier than normal, or sleep in if you have the time.

Ask for a customized infusion.

Most infusion clinics will have several pre-mixed options that work well for a wide range of patients. But if you talk to the practitioners on staff, they can customize the IV mixture for you. Tell them about any symptoms you are having, medical conditions you've been diagnosed with, and known deficiencies you have experienced. They can then add or subtract vitamins from your mixture based on your answers. 

Dress comfortably and bring something to do.

Make sure you wear loose clothing so you can comfortably lay back and relax while the infusion is taking place. You should also bring along something quiet to do in order to keep your mind occupied. Download an audiobook to listen to or a new game to play.

Plan on relaxing afterward.

Most people will feel energized immediately after an infusion, but some people do feel a little tired as their body is trying to process and integrate all of those nutrients. Since this is your first time and you're not sure how you will feel, plan on relaxing after your infusion. Don't schedule anything too strenuous, like a gym session or an important work meeting.
